Masses of pure combustion engine power and just as much downforce: that's what makes the new Ferrari 296 Challenge so special. The non-road-legal customer sports car for 2024 is the successor to the 488 Challenge Evo and can do a lot better than the current 296 GT3.
The 488 Challenge is (till the release of the 296) the most powerful in the history of the Challenge thanks to the 670 hp of the 3.9-liter V8 from the engine of the 488 GTB, winner of the International Engine of the Year Award in 2016. The 488 Challenge has a very sophisticated body. Every millimeter has been designed to keep it on the ground, while the power of its 670 hp makes it fly on the track. Among the improvements achieved are a reduction in overall weight, specific mapping of the engine optimized for racing performance, and the F1 DCT features a new transmission strategy that allows acceleration from standstill to top speed in fourth gear in just six seconds.
The 458 Challenge Evo has been upgraded with an aerodynamic kit compared to the 458 Challenge. It is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 engine with an output of 570 hp, but the handling has also been improved with several updates. The most noticeable change is the GT rear wing, which provides much more downforce and therefore better cornering. There is also a new front splitter and an even better designed underbody, which enabled the Ferrari engineers to install stiffer front springs and improve the braking system.
